Tim Quirks #22: “Human Rights Activists”

I never thought that I’d become a political person. Most of my life has been dedicated to either creating art or having fun. My priorities change a few years ago. I had been working in marketing and advertising for quite some time but had hit a wall. I didn’t feel good about what I was trying to do anymore. I was focusing all of my energy trying to convince teenagers that one pop drink was better than another or that there was a cool, new deodorant on the market.

Advertising can be fun and I was great at it. But I needed to get involved in something more. So I found a company that was dedicated to giving people living in developing countries the resources and education they required to build self-sustaining communities. Once I got a taste, my interest in humanitarian causes only continued to grow and it has been a great experience.

What I didn’t expect was the dynamics that exist within the group known as “social activists”. In the coming days, I’ll go into more details.
