So Long, September Long
September 6, 2013

If you have a family, it’s so important to put that family at the top of your priorities.

With one documentary about to be released, one documentary going into production in a few weeks, and a multitude of other projects on the go, it was more important than ever for me to take a week out to spend some time with Andrea and Addy away from the work.

I’m happy to report that it was a success. For those who are interested, here’s a glimpse of some of the highlights.

Kid’s Letter: “My Mom Got Drunk”
    May 9, 2012

Here is what little Daniel submitted for his first grade writing assignment:

    “17 March My News
I went to my friend Lucas house. My mom got drunk.”

    The teacher’s feedback?:

Oh my goodness me! It’s important for mom to let her hair down once in a while!”

I shudder to think what my kid is going to write about me when she’s older. After all, dad’s need to let their hair down once in a while too. Goodness me.

Anyway, here is a scan of Daniel’s schoolwork:

    One month wedding Anniversary

    Month #1: In the bag

I’ve heard that the secret to a successful marriage is taking it one day at a time. Well, we’ve hit the one month anniversary mark. I guess that I’ve made it 31 times without a fatal error… phew.

How to Kill A Bachelor Part 7: Meeting “The One”
    September 13, 2009

Andrea was a gift for my 28th birthday. Before you get the wrong idea, I will explain:

I had just moved to Vancouver, Canada, and to compensate for being over a thousand miles away from my family and friends, I decided to throw an elaborate birthday party with an open invitation to anyone living in the greater Vancouver area. Using word-of-mouth and the popular online social networks of the time, I successfully promoted my party resulting in a house packed with guests. One of which, was the girl who is to become my wife.

I can still picture the first moment I laid my eyes on Andrea as if it were happening now in front of me. It was a scene out of a cheesy 80’s teen romance film. When she walked through the door, the lights in the room seemed to dim, leaving only a spotlight on Andrea as she floated along in slow motion. Whatever conversation I was having at the time, I quickly dropped as I made my way towards this stunning girl.

It would be great if I could say that she was as eager to speak to me as I was to her. My first three attempts at getting her phone number fell flat. This kind of persistence was untypical of me but I could not stop. This girl was the one I was not going to let get away. Andrea later explained that she was happily single and, at the time, did not intend to get involved with anyone. Regardless, I was relentless and, by the end of the night, her number was mine.

We spent far too long exchanging text messages and the occasional email, several months actually. When we finally went out on a date, the electricity was undeniable and it has remained for the better part of three years.

We plan to marry in less than a month.
